I tutor both junior students and seniors. With juniors I often work to help them gain places at private schools such as George Heriot's, Erskine Stewart's Melville and Fettes College. With seniors my speciality is Maths which I teach up to SQA Advanced Higher level. I also teach Computing, Physics and Chemistry to Higher and English to around S2/S3 level.
My approach is highly personal and I work hard to give each student the individual tutoring they need rather than imposing my own preferred structure on to them. For this reason I prefer to work one-to-one or with small groups.
This section of my website is about my professional tutoring activity, I also have a personal section.
I was born in the south of England in 196x. At school my favourite subject was Maths and I went on to Warwick University where I gained my BSc Hons in Mathematics.
After university I joined the computer industry where I had a variety of roles working for companies ranging from small startups to large multinationals. Much of my time was spent in support and training and I found that I really enjoyed teaching people on a personal, one-to-one basis.
After many years in London I decided I needed a change and moved up here to Edinburgh. I began working as a tutor in 2011 and have found it highly satisfying; nothing beats seeing the look on a student's face when they "get it"!
As well as direct tutoring I have also been pleased to be one of Cameron House Community Centre teaching project tutors for several years.
